David Rosetzky at King’s ARI

Until July 7/07

In his first artist-run initiative exhibition since his time at First Floor, Rosetzky presents new video work depicting a view of global lifestyle culture.  A series of stylised images of young people at their leisure – seemingly at ease. However, voice-over monologues disrupt the idyllic scenes by presenting the subject’s internal musings that refl ect prevalent emotional states of insecurity and paranoia. Interviews with the cast members on the subject of self/other relations were undertaken in order to examine wether identity is determined by our selves or by how others see us? The outcome of the interviews were re-considered and integrated within the video work forming a counterbalance to the fixed nature of images and attempting to destabilise and question conventional representations of the real – presenting a fractured and contradictory montage of subjectivity and contemporary life.
