GIRRL girrlsound:: digitalgirrl – CALL OUT-SoundAffects #girrlsound #geekgirl

CALL OUT FOR PROPOSALS OF SOUND WORK

GIRRL girrlsound:: digitalgirrl This is an international call out for sound-work, digital and sonic recordings, performances, and installation type works, by women, that deal in some way with the extra or surplus quality of sound. Work will be exhibited/performed/presented at Queensland University of Technology, in Brisbane on Friday 27th April.

SoundAffects intends to bring together a plurality of approaches that engage with sound as both mediated and unmediated experience. The event/performance/exhibition primarily addresses what sound is when it presents itself as sonic art. In order to push the boundary of interdisciplinary sound studies into new areas, we encourage contributions from all approaches and disciplines. As the event is sonic and an interdisciplinary approach to sound for and by GIRRLS

Intuition and Ingenuity – a show of artwork celebrating the life of Alan Turing. #UK #enigma #geekgirl

THE EXHIBITION

Exhibition Dates: 17 – 26 February, 11am – 6pm  Venue: Lighthouse, 28 Kensington Street, Brighton, BN1 4AJ

Intuition and Ingenuity is a group exhibition that explores the enduring influence of Alan Turing, the father of modern computing. The show is currently touring the UK, and comes to Lighthouse for Brighton Science Festival, following rave reviews from exhibiting at Kinetica Art Fair in London.

2012 is the 100th anniversary of the birth of Alan Turing, one of the greatest minds Britain has produced. Between inventing the digital computer and helping to decode the German Enigma machine, to founding the science of artificial intelligence, the world today would have been a very different place without his ideas.

This exhibition, which takes its name from Turing’s own writing, brings together a number of important artists, from digital art pioneers to emerging contemporary artists.

ARTIST TALK  21 February, 7pm

Complementing the exhibition are talks led by artists, boredomresearch and Alex May, and co-curator of the exhibition Anna Dumitriu on 21 February.

Intuition and Ingenuity is touring the UK during Alan Turing Year, showing at Lighthouse during Brighton Science Festival, plus many other venues around the country. It is curated by Sue Gollifer, Nick Lambert and Anna Dumitriu.

Call for Visual Contributions: #Anthology // #Occupy #Amsterdam #tactics #geekgirl

*OCCUPY READER*  *Call for Visual Contributions:  Anthology // Occupy Amsterdam *

A group of artists, writers & activists is currently writing an Anthology of ideas, tactics, & concepts, inspired by our experience at Occupy Amsterdam. One goal of this anthology is to offer proposals, visions and reflections. We want to investigate the elements of the political visions that functioned within Occupy, in terms of aims, strategies, analysis as well as tactics – so that the Occupy experience can help to nourish future forms of activism. How can Occupy be extended – beyond the camp, into the future, into the rest of the city, the country, the world?

The anthology will have an open form that will include texts of many different kinds and authors addressing a great variety of subjects. In order to accommodate this, we have chosen to organize the anthology into 99 lemmas, like an encyclopedia. An entry could be any kind of text, from short definitions to complete essays, from histories to images.

We are still interested in expanding our range of contributors, in particular we are looking for visual contributions of various kinds – illustrations, autonomous works, visuals inspired by Occupy, for graphic novels, archive material, photographs, drawings, cartoons, posters, flyers…. We would be happy to receive your contribution! More info and a detailed list of Lemmas (=Tags) can be found on the website.

*DEADLINE: *  March 10th, 2012
