GROUNDbody a 3 day immersive dance workshop led by VICTORIA HUNT 13-15 February, 2015 Repentance Creek Hall, Repentance Creek, Byron Bay Hinterland NSW ß

GROUNDBODY is an intensive 3 day sensory workshop based on Victoria’s significant work in the traditions of Butoh and BodyWeather.

BodyWeather is a synthesis of Eastern and Western practice and thought that develops grounding, flexibility and sensitivity whilst promoting a deep freedom. Butoh arose in the 1950’s, but references origins in ancient Japan. A contemporary dance form emphasising images which transform and explore extremities of the body.

As a broadbased, comprehensive physical training, BodyWeather opens up an enquiry that is exploratory and experimental in nature. The practice proposes the body as a transformer – both inside and outside – as a constantly changing environment within a greater ecology.

This workshop is designed to train the imagination and sensory modes of experience through the body. It draws from four main areas of the practice which vary between high-energy work and quiet, meditative explorations:

MB: Muscle & Bone is a dynamic, rhythmic work-out for strength, flexibility & grounding. MB: Mind & Body is a training for the imagination and spatial preparation for performance. Manipulations: a series of precise forms concerned with stretching, breathing and alignment. Ground/Sensitivity Work: a wide variety of exercises to develop sensorial focus, sensitivity and the full scope of expression of ones body in the space. Imagery Explorations: explores images that are carried inside and outside the body as the primary generator of movement.

Some of the work will take place in the environment. The venue is close to the beautiful Minyon Falls, national parks, creeks, rivers, forests.

There will also be the opportunity for you to create improvisations/works using your own materials. This could be anything from a piece of writing, a piece of music, rope, artworks.
