  • Earthsharing Film Competition

    Entries are now open for Earthsharing Australia’s 2009 film competition entitled “I Want to Live Here: The war on creativity.” Artists and film makers are asked to respond to issues of gentrification and the difficulty creative communities have when rent increases cause them to move onto cheaper suburbs.

  • The Melbourne Bicycle Film Festival x

    To promote Melbourne as a city for cyclists, The Melbourne Bicycle Film Festival are looking for films up to 1 minute long that promote road harmony between all users. The films must contain a recognisable City of Melbourne location, feature cyclists wearing helmets, using a bell and contain one of eight scenarios that represent barriers to road harmony.

    First prize is $1000 and a $250 voucher from Open Channel and the use of the clip by the City of Melbourne as part of their safe cycling campaign. Short listed entries will be screened before Bicycle Film Festival sessions at the Palace Kino Cinemas 26 – 28 November.

    Intense show’n’tells, pitches, discussions and lots of interaction!

    An interactive event by gamers for gamers – a day of playing, learning about and making games. Come be a spectator, play to win, or get involved in the creative jam session. This free one day event features gaming competitions, seminars, networking and creative activities. The JAM starts with a gaming forum where anyone can register to be a presenter – share YOUR latest discoveries, opinions & ideas for games and virtual worlds. The JAM ends with a workshop & competition – where creative teams engage in a battle of ideas & rapid game-design, with prizes for best pitch!

    6 The user or creator angle is fine (in otherwords talk us through one of your must play games!) – just make sure it is not too geeky or too fanzy!

    Demos around the areas: big screen displays, play new games and demos.

    Positive Posters is an international poster campaign open to graphic design students and professionals. The project aims to publish positive posters around city walls that will challenge/inspire people to make a positive change in their lives.

    The Positive Posters design competition asks students and industry professionals to come up with posters that respond to themes that will hopefully inspire a positive social change in our community.

    30 shortlisted entries will be shown in an exhibition at the Rooftop Bar (Curtin House) in November, with the winning entry bill posted with around 1000 prints around Melbourne. This poster will then go on a world tour, through the positive posters network.

    This is a great opportunity to gain exposure for young talented designers, as well as allowing them to positively contribute to the current social fabric through their work.

    Qashqai is a resilient urban vehicle with distinct style. It is capable to take on whatever the city throws at it – Qashqai is ‘Urbanproof’. We are looking for ideas around Nissan’s tough and stylish Qashqai. Designs may challenge any element of urban parking (underground, exterior, interior, multi-layer, ground level, shape, colors, material, smell, sound, ramps, signage, limits, etc.). Urban parking is in need of a renovation. Ideas must challenge current perceptions of urban parking and offer a tougher, sleeker, or even playful rendering of it.

    The urban parking challenge is open to innovative designers with a bold and daring vision. Design is an innovative field with an ever-growing number of mediums to create this parking renovation: graphic, video, urban, industrial, lighting, motion and more.
    Ideas may be delivered as videos, objects or illustrations.

  • Future shots, sustainability film challenge for young Victorians

    Future Shots is a short film challenge to all young people living in Victoria.

    Tackling one of the most important issues affecting the world today: SUSTAINABLITY

    The challenge is to make a film of three minutes or less, of any type or genre that addresses the key question:

    Sustainability: What’s it all about?

    Future Shots is looking for creativity, inspiration, discussions and solutions.

    You are encouraged to explore, interpret, and then commit to film your personal ideas about sustainability, what it means to you and your community and how you think it can be achieved.

    Films entered into Future Shots by the 21 September, 2009 will be placed in the draw to win either a Sony HandyCam or an Ipod Touch.

  • Freezly: Automatically Aggregating Giveaways

    Do you spend hours trawling through the net looking for free stuff? If yes, then how about giving the Israeli web-based start-up Freezly a whirl. Freezly searches Twitter for free items or competition-giveaways: they seem to do a reasonable job of finding a large range of items:

    “In general, Freezly monitors new tweets as they come in, analyzes their content, and filters out unwanted tweets using a proprietary algorithm.
