Venice Biennale Australian Schools Call-out
Venice Biennale Australian Schools call-out:
This is a call-out open to all Australian primary and secondary schools. The aim is for students to work together in designing themes and producing works of art around issues that are important to them. It’s an opportunity to consider cross-curriculum projects with other subject teachers in the school, and to engage in the ABC’s social media space Pool. This project is part of the Australian Venice Biennale Education Resource.
Imagine…
A group show of your students’ artwork presented by Australia at the Venice Biennale. We invite your school to contribute.
What to do?
Your students to curate an exhibition of up to five students’ artwork (one artwork each). Give the exhibition a name, write a curatorial statement about the theme of the exhibition and include a description of each work & why it has been included. the exhibition should reflect the interests of the students & what is important in their lives.
You might even like to install the exhibition at school and have an opening night party!
How do I get started?
1. Join Pool and create a profile of your school.
2. Upload your curatorial statement and the artworks to the Venice Biennale group page
3. Licence all your contributions as Creative Commons attribution non-commercial.For tips on how to create a profile, upload content & more information on Creative Commons licensing visit the Pool FAQs.

Bitchbrandsbetter a new site for bitchin’ about brands
Basically it’s a place you can go to get a personal story about a brand behaving badly towards you, off your chest. If you’ve had a genuine negative brand experience, bitchbrandsbetter will give you the chance to tell the whole world about it and hopefully help improve the brand’s behaviour. So any bad brand story, big or small, they want to hear it. The current site is in minimised form as we are still building the full version. You can enter your story in the input field at the base of the current site and it will become pre-loaded content for the full site once it’s launched.
So go on – have a bitch. It’s positive! And please pass on the link to anyone else who may need this kind of therapy.

Trent_Reznor is still on Twitter
Despite rumours Trent Reznor deleted his Twitter account, I just checked and he’s still around. He has however made all comms *one way*, which means ultimately he has the last say and ensures he tells everyone to get fucked at least a thousand times a day.
Apparently Trent got a lil angry over fans accusing him of being a sell-out after lots of kissy-kissy admissions of his newly found love: Here are some of the tweets that infuriated angsty fans:
Reznor: “Now that I’m in love and gone all soft on you, can anyone recommend any romantic comedies? Got a weird urge.”
And
Reznor: “I am missing someone. Boo hoo.”
And
Reznor: “Wait – I’m in love and getting married! I’d give you all free tickets if I could. (hugs)”
You have to remember that this is from the author of albums with titles such as “Pretty Hate Machine”, “Broken” and “The Downward Spiral.”
Reznor was using Twitter the way it was intended – and that was just to be himself. But when a whole career has been spent creating and marketing a nihilistic industrial rock god, public announcements of urges to watch romantic comedies and wanting to give “hugs,” aren’t going to go down too well with some members of the fanbase. Poor Trent just couldn’t stand being accused of “going soft”.
Oh well Trent all we can say is Fuck You and the Bride you came in On! *weg*

Twitter Backgrounds
Hmmm neat idea especially for us too tired types! Gaining in popularity is the Freedom for Iran background! Lots of stories circulating as to how Twitter has helped the people of Iran. One of the better blogs ‘The API revolution’ is written by Jeff Jarvis of Buzz Machine.
Personally, I am leaning to the Dark Fairy Twitter background : but there is a Girl Background category so I’ll probably change my mind;)

Journalism experiment
A team of journalists and educators based at Melbourne’s Swinburne University is preparing to launch the Foundation for Public Interest Journalism, which aims to experiment with new ways of delivering journalism in the new media world. The Foundation is now calling for nominations to the board and aims to be up and running by the end of the year.
Interestingly Margaret Simons one of the founders of the group states:
“The foundation will support investigative, interactive journalism while exploring ways of making good journalism sustainable in the new media age.
It will fund worthy journalism projects initiated by either members of the public or practising journalists, and is likely to incorporate approaches from similar projects overseas, such as www.spot.us”
GG note: Good luck to Margaret. I can’t imagine anyone sponsoring local news stories unless they are exclusive and have an element of high drama. Afterall, isn’t that why pundits buy news in the first place?
Spot.us doesn’t seem to be the best example of a successful alternative media model, but I would be interested to see others…You can read the rest of the piece at Margaret Simon’s Public Interest Journalism Blog.
