‘Don’t Shop’ Zine exhibition

The Don’t Look 2203 Collective presents ‘Don’t Shop’.

This exhibition will showcase some of the great ZINES that are being made by individuals and collectives around Sydney (for the uninitiated, Wikipedia describes a zine as “a small circulation, non-commercial publication of original or appropriated texts and images”. They are generally fiercely independent and an antidote to the mind-numbing mass media).

More than that though, these zines will come alive spreading into the gallery via graph art, video projections, sound and other mediums. Come and have a look at the exhibition and take away a zine in the process (some are *free* while most just charge to recover printing costs).

WHO: Zine artists and the Don’t Look 2203 Collective WHEN: Opening:  June 6-21, 2008 WHERE:  Don’t Look 2203, 419 New Canterbury Rd, Dulwich Hill, Sydney (a block back from the corner of New Canterbury Rd and Marrickville Rd) CONTACT: Phone: Matt on 0404 654 757, Email: dontlookgallery@gmail.com ENTRY: Gold coin donation to assist with costs

Apparently That’s What Happened

A Jo Lloyd presentation

Wednesday 25 – Sunday 29 June 2008 Arts House, Meat Market, North Melbourne Town Hall

A dog attacks a child at a party. A robbery victim lies bleeding. Who really knows what went on?

Apparently That’s What Happened is a new dance work that explores the aftermath of those moments when, faced with sudden drama, we react in ways we never would have predicted. Disturbing incidents where each witness has a different perspective.

Audience members will leave with their own account of what happened – not one viewer will experience the performance in the same way weather they be a victim or voyeur.

Chumby — it’s so cute!

There are a steadily growing set of devices upon which any click is a hassle. The most numerous and obvious example is the cellphone, where the keypad is often a finicky and unpleasant way to enter any click at all. Then there are devices such as the Chumby (www.chumby.com) for which the content displayed is configured online via a Web site which allows for both a selection of content to be made, and also the order in which that content will be displayed to be set.

Therefore, there is a growing number of people who don’t just want one click. Instead, they want no click. Or in other words, they want “set and forget”.
