In the future every url will be popular for 1.5 seconds

With the intention to get a quick glance on what’s happening on the web while keeping the common newsreader clean from short-term headlines, popurls was launched in march 2006 by Thomas Marban who is often mentioned for creating the original trend of “single page aggregators”. Rather than a tool, popurls is considered as a gate to an editorial selection of the most popular sites on the internet, presented in a usable way. After features on thousands of blogs and newspapers like the NY times, Yahoo! named it best of the web to finally enter the 30 most popular sites of all time on del.icio.us. Today, popurls is frequented more than 75.000 times each day.

Get the family dog cloned

rruh rruh rruh: “Some of you may have seen ‘The 6th Day,’ the movie with Arnold Schwarzenegger a few years back. If you recall there was a ‘re-pet’ cloning service to get your dog back if you ever lost them.

Enter ‘Best Friends Again’: ‘A US biotech company on Wednesday announced it will auction off the right for five dog owners to have their furry best friend cloned, with bidding starting at 100,000 dollars. “BioArts International … will sell five dog cloning service slots to the general public via a worldwide online auction,” the California-based biotech start-up said in a statement.'”

The Best Friends Again program, sponsored by BioArts International, is a limited commercial dog cloning program. BioArts is the only entity in the world with both the know-how and the legal right to practice commercial dog and cat cloning. We are auctioning off 5 dog cloning service slots to the general public. We may or may not perform any additional commercial dog cloning services after this auction.

As many people are aware, dogs are arguably the most difficult mammal to clone. Due to the challenges unique to dog cloning, we can only offer a limited number of dog cloning service slots. With a very limited supply and a very large demand for this service, we have decided that an online auction is the fairest way to offer this special opportunity to the public.

Registration for the auction begins on May 21st. We will hold a separate online auction for each of the 5 cloning service spots. Your one-time registration entitles you to participate in any or all of the auctions. The first auction starts on June 18th at 6:00am PST and runs for 24 hours.

St Kilda book sale to fund East Timor library

THOUSANDS of books will be sold in a community initiative set to give the children of an East Timorese village a chance to read.

A giant book sale will be held this month by the Friends of Suai, a charity group established to support the village of the same name, to help build the township’s first library.

Thousands of books no longer needed by Port Phillip Library will go on sale Wednesday, May 28.

“A school library will be like a small miracle for the 1453 students who, until last year, were forced to take some lessons sitting on a concrete floor,” Friends of Suai co-ordinator Pat Jessen said.

“Most of these kids will have never even touched a book at home, so a whole library of books will be rare and precious.”

Friends of Suai was established in Port Phillip in 2000 to assist in the rebuilding of the coastal town on the western border of East Timor, which was almost completely destroyed during the independence vote in 1999.

Port Phillip Council has donated 30 computers, some of which will be used in the new library.

The sale is at St Kilda Library, 150 Carlisle St, May 28, 2-6pm. Phone 03 9209 6777 to volunteer. Details: www.friendsof suai.org.au

Wednesday, May 28, 2008 Time: 2:00pm – 6:00pm Location: St Kilda Library (take number 3 tram from city) Street: 150 Carlisle St, St Kilda City/Town: Melbourne, Australia

Cat House Camp:Deej Fabyc

Deej Fabyc with Oreet Ashery, Andy Warhol, Hugo Glendinning, Sarah Pucill, Kim Fielding, Adam Fearon & special guests.

For some time Deej Fabyc has been working on a new transnational large-scale installation, film & performance project, in association with her Artsadmin Residency Bursary.

This project developed from the starting point of looking at the Shooting paintings and the film Daddy by Niki De Saint Phalle. During May 2008 she will build a circular hut inside the Fire Room at Toynbee Studios, made out of recycled materials, and in particular, water bottles, to test some of the ideas in the larger project. She will invite significant female live artists, including Oreet Ashery, to present their own work in tableau on the evening of the 27th of May, in tandem with the documentation of the event in an intrusive collaborative fashion by renowned photographers Kim Fielding & Hugo Glendinning and film maker Sarah Pucill and video artist Adam Fearon.

Inside the hut, Fabyc will be sleeping, but you have to work to find a way in. Andy Warhol’s Sleep (loaned by MOMA NYC) will be projected on the side of the Hut. Fabyc is quoting herself stealing a Warhol idea in Paris 15 years ago; before she had ever seen even a still of the film.

Deej Fabyc is based in London where she is founding director of Elastic Residence, artist project space. She is a key figure in KISSS, an international curatorium of artists working with issues of surveillance. Recent significant performances include Details at L’abracada Festival International d’Art Contemporani, Castell de la Bisbal, Spain 2006; And She Watched, Trace Installation Artspace, Cardiff, and in Don’t Call it Performance, Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid and Centro Parraga, Murcia, Spain. Her work has been shown internationally both in museums and artist-run spaces during the past 15 years.
