Satellite Art in Bible’s Image

CECIL B. DEMILLE should be proud. A satellite image of the parting of the Red Sea has confirmed that the boiling wall of water he depicted in the 1956 film The Ten Commandments was right on the mark.

Look at the satellite picture and you can see Moses and the Israelites scurrying into the corridor formed by the sea’s bisected waters. The Egyptian army, minutes from obliteration, is just out of shot.

The picture appears to have been plucked directly from Google Earth. It’s a fake, of course, part of a project called God’s Eye View created by the Glue Society, the Sydney art and design collective whose melted ice-cream van won the People’s Choice Award at last year’s Sculpture By The Sea. The other pictures in the set show the crucifixion, Noah’s Ark and the Garden of Eden.

IWD:2008

Beth Eldridge of Older Women’s Network and Anne Barber of the Women’s Electoral Lobby have started a project to make IWD 2008 Sydney march and following event, the best ever. They are concerned that, over the last few years, this event has been attracting less involvement from women’s and community groups, than they believe it should have. So, they would like you to join them in making this public demonstration of women’s efforts an outstanding occasion.

For more information please contact them (info below).

TECHNARTE CONFERENCE 2008

Modern art, stimulated and encouraged by new technologies and its own impetus for innovation, is advancing in a surprising manner. Art and technology, science and creativity are influencing each other, and that influence has proved extremely fruitful over the last few decades to the point where the two disciplines now seem inextricably joined. The Innovalia Association, a non-profit organization, wishes to reflect that artistic fusion, and from that wish TECHNARTE was born as a conference where the most important thinkers in the sector and the most advanced technologists can be heard. It is aimed at specialists in all areas of art, including artists, gallery owners, museum staff, teachers, public authorities, foundations, events, etc.

TECHNARTE runs 24 – 25 April 2008. A call for papers and registrations is now open.
