Bushfire Trauma – and how Animal Liberation Victoria is helping
“Animal Liberation Victoria (ALV) are in spirit and solidarity with all the victims of this horrendous tragedy. Rescue teams have been out in the badly affected areas working. It is hard to get access being a crime scene, but we were allowed access with the rescue van which was filled with hay/feed/water and an experienced crew.
Patty Mark’s blog describes ALV’s most recent search and rescue: Trauma amidst the ashes. ALV are planning food drops in the Gippsland area this weekend if we are allowed access. Please Contact ALV if you are able to help in any way.”
Editor’s note: I was totally moved by Patty’s blog (it made me cry)
she really captures the spirit of her passion – saving and protecting animals. Her recent blog on the trauma suffered by the magnificent livestock is the quintessential read on the quiet dignity of animals.Btw, I am not just staying home crying and doing nothing. Let;s leave that for the contestants of the Biggest Loser and So you think you can Dance. I have volunteered for the Salvos — it was very rewarding and satisfying — so the best way I believe for you to help if you don’t know how (besides money); is to volunteer your time and get down to one of your Salvation Army Centres and help pack donations of food, toiletries and clothes.
Bless: GG

Australian Bushfire Housing new site launched
Bushfire Housing an online tool to facilitate the pairing of those that are homeless due to the Australian bushfires with those that have room in their house, a vacant rental, newly purchased investment property or holiday home they wish to offer as temporary accomodation.”
Australian bushfires have left thousands of families in Victoria and New South Wales homeless. We aim to help by matching people in urgent need of shelter with others within their communities and surrounding regions who are able to offer emergency accommodation during this time of crisis.

Help the Animals of the Victorian Bushfires
For Melbourne people who can donate animal food and accessories, the Richmond Veterinary Clinic at 259 Church St, Richmond (http://www.richmondvetclinic.com.au/) – Melbourne has become a hub for food distribution to the effected areas. As many people are aware the animal population has been devastated by the wildfires. Phone Richmond Vet Clinic on 03 9428 2220
Sick and injured animals are being cared for by organizations like Wildlife Victoria (http://www.wildlifevictoria.org.au/cms/index.php), Animal Aid (http://www.animalaid.com.au/) and the Victorian branch of the RSPCA (http://www.rspcavic.org/campaigns_news/news_bushfires.htm).
However animals and birds in bushfire areas desperately need food and water. The Richmond clinic is accepting all types of pet and animal food, including: dog food, cat food, bird seed and even livestock food supplies. They are also in desperate need of medicine for animals, like antibiotics and other first aid, bandages, guaze etc, sheets, blankets etc
Please help and generously donate by contributing to this vital cause. Any vets or vet nurses who haven’t yet registered to assist with triage can find information through relevant organisations.
Anyone with spare land that can take animals – livestock especially – are also encouraged to contact organisations for offers of help. Alhtough money is essential to help the victims of the bushfire; and Victorians have reacted with immediate generosity, the help of directly delivering food to a distribution centre is essential.
Bless, GG.

The Salvos are accepting goods but check with them first to make sure they are able to use them.
