Design Cities

Design Cities tells the story of contemporary design through seven key cities at their creative height: London (1851), Vienna (1908), Dessau (1928), Paris (1936), Los Angeles (1949), Milan (1957), Tokyo (1987) and London (2008). The exhibition features a full range of objects from textiles and fashion to industrial pieces, furniture and prints.

Renew Newcastle – Australia

Renew Newcastle is a not for profit initiative that has been set up to make empty buildings in the Newcastle CBD available to artists, cultural businesses and community groups. The scheme is designed to find high quality, low capital projects and work with the private sector to find spaces in which they can take place for a nominal cost in the Newcastle CBD. Renew Newcastle is pleased to announce that they have launched a new website and are currently calling for expressions of interests from groups and individuals that are interested in doing projects.

Jump Start Production Fund Application

Metro Screen invests $45,000 each year in productions by providing subsidised access to our equipment and facilities through Jump Start and Network Production Grants.

Metro Screen’s Jump Start Committee typically comprises representatives of the Metro Board, our Facilities Department and the independent production industry. Applicants should be realistic about the amount of subsidy sought and note that the committee expects a cash contribution by all applicants unless extenuating financial circumstances exist.

Sydney – Young Filmmakers NetTV! Holiday Workshop

Create your very own Internet TV channel! Participants will be broken into small groups to brainstorm & produce content (talk show, commercials, drama, comedy, news, etc) for the channel.

Day 1: Brainstorming ideas, scripting, planning. Day 2: Green Screen Studio/Interior/Exterior shoot. Day 3: Editing using Chroma Key on Final Cut Pro followed by uploading to YouTube channel.

Participants receive a Certificate of Completion. Content to be screened at the end of year screening at the Chauvel Cinema, Paddington.

Caution: 2009 is Year of the Tart!

Back with a bang for 2009 is the original female pop music showcase, ‘PopTarts’, continuing to present fresh talent from Tuesday January 6 at Balmain’s Unity Hall Hotel.

The PopTarts events, now in their 8th year, enjoy displaying an array of genres from up-and-coming and established local artists on the first Tuesday of every month at the venue.

The fabulous female fronted acts featuring in January are Emily Ryan, Stephanie Broadbridge, Elisha Keen, Alice Terry and Larissa and The Wild Grey.

PopTarts’ founder, local artist Amanda Easton, is also currently hosting PopTarts TV, now on air on TVS in Sydney (Tuesdays at 8:30pm), featuring live performances and interviews from artists from the showcases. The 13-part TV series will also be airing on Channel 31 in Melbourne from December 22.

The free monthly live event starts at 7:30pm at The Unity Hall Hotel at 292 Darling Street in Balmain (opposite Woollies).
