“Postkarten aus der Tiefsee” – holography by Ms.M

Am Sonntag, den 20. Juli ab 19 Uhr (und nur an diesem Abend!) zeigt Martina Mrongovius “Postkarten aus der Tiefsee”.

Martina Mrongovius is a Melbourne/New York based artist who works with holographic images.

This exhibition features the first of her holographic postcard series freshly printed at the Kunsthochschule für Medien Köln, as well as images from her ongoing work that plays with the viewers proprioceptive reading of the hologram.

The postcards capture the essence of our daydreams and the dynamics of memory, each carrying a little story back from far away places.

Zusätzlich wird eine Gemeinschaftsarbeit von Martina Mrongovius, Till Nachtmann und Stefan Silies gezeigt. Grill und Getränke sind vorhanden.

BIOME

Editor’s note:I know it’s New York but the little creatures look snaargly!! and not sure if they ship but the Art books and tee-shirts are neat…

Meredith Dittmar, Emily Gobeille & Theodore Watson have taken the Riviera Gallery space and transformed it into miniature worlds containing invented fantastical flora and fauna.

Viewing portals bring visitors into a world where they can interact with the animated creatures who live there. Visitors can use their voice, cell phones, keys – any object – to communicate with and ‘feed’ the creatures. They will react differently to the various sounds that are made, learning and building a sound memory over time. When people are not interacting with the creatures they carry on with their normal behaviors.

Surrounding the portals, a larger world has been created, invading the space with vines and plants that guide visitors through Dittmar’s world of polymer creatures, great and small.

South Korea’s new high tech product: cloned dogs

Two South Korean labs are offering pet owners the chance to clone dogs, but for those looking to bring back a beloved beagle, be ready to wait in line and have plenty of cash on hand.

The Seoul-based labs — one affiliated to RNL Bio and the other to Sooam Biotech Research Foundation — are separated by about 30 km and bill themselves as the only places in the world where you can clone a cocker spaniel or retrieve a retriever, with costs running at about US$50,000 to US$100,000.

But the labs are turning out far more copies of working dogs and endangered breeds than pets.

Customers such as South Korea’s customs service have cloned a champion sniffer dog, seeing the option as a cost-effective way to produce candidates for expensive training programmes.
