Vote for Violence Free Science

Vote for Violence Free SciencePresented annually by the Australian Museum, the Australian Museum Eureka Prizes reward excellence in the fields of scientific research & innovation, science leadership, school science and science journalism & communication. Up for nomination this year is Dr Hala Raghib. Inspired by a family history of heart disease, Hala thought her PhD at the RMIT School of Medical Science would focus on finding a cure. Her studies meant she would have to take cultures and cells from lab animals though – something she didn’t like doing. So she added an extra challenge to her research – to find a way to ensure that all new medicines are safe for human use and do not have serious effects on the heart, without using animals to test them. Hala’s discoveries mean we would no longer need to use animals, or animal products to make sure our drugs are safe. Follow this link for more information and to vote for Hala.
