LOOP: NEW AUSTRALIAN VIDEO ART

Loop: new Australian video art showcases innovative contemporary video art by five of Australia’s leading artists, including Daniel Crooks, Shaun Gladwell, Jess MacNeil, Arlo Mountford and Daniel von Sturmer. Testing the boundaries of this visual medium, the works in Loop present a spliced meditation on time, space, motion, place and perspective. Curated by Daniel McOwan, the Director of Hamilton Art Gallery, Loop is a NETS Victoria touring exhibition that provides regional audiences with the unique opportunity to access and engage with contemporary video art, which is rarely presented outside of metropolitan art spaces. Georgia Cribb, Director of National Exhibitions Touring Support (NETS) Victoria said, “This special touring exhibition extends beyond the familiar screen-based experience and presents some of the best contemporary Australian video art that will appeal to a wide audience. “In bringing together this group of seemingly diverse artists, is intended to provide a glimpse into some of the fresh methods being employed in video art today. Combined with a scientific-like fascination with the medium of technology, these inspired works display a poetic and hybrid form of video,” Cribb explained. Loop: new Australian video art will be launched at Hamilton Art Gallery on 18 September and will then travel to five other venues across regional Victoria before concluding in April 2009.
