Free Science Fiction – Sydney Freecon

The Freecon will start with a panel and audience discussion of this year’s SF / Sci-Fi Movies and TV.

To put the Science in Science Fiction we will have no less than three Archaeologist, Craig Barker and Candace Richards from Sydney University and Tony Lowe of Casey Lowe to discuss what they actually do as working Archaeologists and whether recent Sci-Fi TV and Movie representations of Archaeologists are Fact or Fiction?

Our Epic Writer Guests will be Pamela Freeman (Blood Ties With two websites, one for kids www.pamelafreemanbooks.com and one for adults www.castingstrilogy.com) and Richard Harland (www.richardharland.net/), Eddon and Vail, Ferren and the Angels, The Vicar of Morbing Vile and The Black Crusade). They will be sharing a writer’s panel with Bernadette Foley of the recently created Australian Orbit SF&F imprint of Little Brown / Hachette Livre (www.hachette.com.au). Bernadette is coming to us fresh in from the International Frankfurt Bookfair. That’s two outstanding SF&F writers AND a Publisher / Publicist!

This year’s Kevin Dillon lunchtime Symposium will discuss the life and works of three significant Science Fiction and Fantasy Authors who passed away since the last Freecon; Kurt Vonnegut Jr., Fred (Berserker Stories) Saberhagen and Robert Jordan.

If you have ever read and enjoyed a story written by either of these three ‘Ghosts of Honour’ then come along to the Freecon and lets talk about it.

The Afternoon’s panels will include presentations and discussions featuring;

Christopher Jones, Ph.D candidate and currently a lecturer on sport administration, will speak on the future of Sport now that some of the artificial limbs currently available to disabled athletes allow them to outperform un-enhanced able bodied athletes.

There will be a discussion of NSW and ACT short length SF&F publishing, Anthologies, Magazines and Competitions

There will be a discussion of the many sorts of local SF&F meetings, conventions and events that will be of interest to people who read SF&F, want to write SF&F or who watch Sci-Fi TV and movies.
