Amplified Elephants performing Black Widow Tuesday September 9, 6-8pm Pit Theatre, Footscray Arts, Melbourne

Black Widow The Amplified Elephants continue their work exploring minimal drones, 80’s synthesizers and the spidery sounds made by amplified found objects. Black Widow is a series of three 10 minute group-devised works that express darker emotions and experiences through a visceral process of turning sound into art.

James Hullick, a renowned composer, has been working for over 3 years with Sound Art participants of Footscray Community Arts Centre’s ArtLife Program. Over that period of time a distinctly gothic sonic palate has emerged in their work, perhaps in response to those ‘gothic’ qualities of life in the western suburbs – industrial landscapes and entire regions where citizens are feeling the financial weight.

The Amplified Elephants are an interabilities ensemble of sound artists who have participated in Sound Art workshops as part of our ArtLife program. After two hugely successful concerts at Footscray Community Arts Centre last year, the group are back to give FAVSC audiences an aural experience to remember.
