ARTBOTS

ArtBots is pleased to announce that the fifth international ArtBots exhibition for robotic art and art-making robots will take place at the Trinity College Science Gallery in Dublin, Ireland on September 19-21, 2008. Creators of talented robots are invited to submit their work for possible inclusion in the show. We have no fixed idea of what qualifies as robotic art; if you think it’s a robot and you think it’s art, we encourage you to submit your work. Regardless of whether it’s hi-tech, low-tech, or neg-tech, we’re interested in the ideas you’re working with, not just the gear. Proposals for workshops, performances, and other kinds of participation are also welcome.

CLIMATE CLOCK GLOBAL INITIATIVE

The Climate Clock Global Initiative is seeking ideas from artist-led teams to create a major artwork entitled Climate Clock, which will measure changes in greenhouse gas levels, and be the first in a series of global projects calling attention to climate change. Climate Clock will be an instrument of long-term measurement and will have a sustainable design of 100 years. The artwork will be located in downtown San Jose, California, Silicon Valley’s city center, and will be a collaboration between an artist-led team composed of artists, international and Silicon Valley engineers and other creative professionals who are working with climate measurement and data visualization. It is anticipated that the budget for the construction of Climate Clock will be between $5 and $15 million, depending upon the scope of the final proposal.

The Climate Clock Initiative is a collaboration between FUSE: cadre/montalvo artist research residency initiative and the City of San Jose Public Art program in cooperation with ZERO1.

Poltergay

All dressed up with nowhere to go?

Feature Image Poltergay

Come into ACMI where it’s party time!

Described as a cross between The Sixth Sense and Queer Eye for a Straight Guy, Eric Lavaine’s Poltergay epitomises the eclectic mix of features, short films and documentaries that have made the 18th Melbourne Queer Film Festival one of the best ever – and there’s more to come! While the 2008 festival closes this weekend, there are still plenty of opportunities to catch the best queer films from around the world. Ever wondered what happened to Tori Spelling (smile and nod politely)? Catch her in Kiss the Bride, a snappy comedy from C. Jay Cox also starring Joanna Cassidy. Funny girl Margaret Cho also makes an appearance in Lorene Machondo’s Bam Bam & Celeste. And don’t miss Lucía Puenzo’s XXY, Argentina’s official entry in the Best Foreign Language Film category at this year’s Academy Awards and winner of two prizes at Cannes. Screening on Sunday night, XXY will be followed by the Closing Night Party in the Festival Club. Come out, come out wherever you are!
