#Google Puts Online 10,000 Works of Street Art from Across the Globe #streetart [#geekgirl]

Artist: Klit (Beetle)

Google Street Art has doubled its online archive by adding some 5,000 images, bringing the tally to 10,000, with coordinates pinpointing exact locations on all five continents (though as of this writing, things are a bit thin on the ground in Africa). Given the temporal realities of outdoor, guerrilla art, pilgrims may arrive to find a blank canvas where graffiti once flourished. (RIP New York City’s 5 Pointz, the “Institute of Higher Burning.”)

A major aim of the project is virtual preservation. As with performance art, documentation is key. (sic)  Guided tours to neighborhoods rich with street art allow armchair travelers to experience the work, and interviews with the artists dispel any number of stereotypes.

Google does the Wave

Billed as “the e-mail of the future,” Google Wave is the result of a multiyear project inside of Google to reinvent the in-box, blending e-mail, instant messaging, photo sharing, and perhaps, with input from developers, connections to the world of social networking.

Wave organizes Internet discussions in the trendy stream of consciousness fashion. It’s a little bit Twitter, a little bit Friendfeed, and a little bit Facebook all in one service, allowing you to send direct messages to online contacts with real-time replies, share photos or documents, and add or delete members of the conversation as needed.
