#LinkedIn EgoBait: Don’t be Fooled #geekgirls

LinkedIn EgoBait

“Here’s a market ploy disguised as an accolade that you can use to compensate while annoying the sh*t out of everyone you know!”

[Added Context: Like a huge gaggle of fellow LinkedIn users, I just received a variation of this message via email: “Mez, congratulations! You have one of the top XX% most viewed LinkedIn profiles for 2012”. Unfortunately for LinkedIn, this type of sneaky egobait-based media blitz is having a reverse (or is that inverse?) effect, with many users pinpointing it as dodgy promotional pap. And even if LinkedIn have crunched the numbers and decided that such vanity-spam might just make it past a discerning member’s bullsheete detector – and even now I’m getting a smattering of their pre-set shareable/egobaiting messages broadcasting from otherwise reputable boffins – they shouldn’t underestimate a backlash.]
